Looks like Sony has finally brought some of the titles from the massive PS2 library to the current-generation PS4 according to Eurogamer.

After receiving the Special Edition "Star Wars Battlefront" PS4, along with the codes for four downloadable titles including: "Super Star Wars," "Star Wars: Jedi Starfighters," "Star Wars: Racer Revenge" and "Star Wars: Bounty Hunter" the website found something interesting when booting up the three PS2 titles. They actually worked!

The website reports that the old PS2 logo appeared and there was also a system in place to emulate a PS2 memory card to save your game process and a prompt at the start of the emulation that informed them that the select and start buttons can be accessed by pressing left and right on the DualShock 4's trackpad. Furthermore, the emulator upgraded the games from their original resolutions 512 x 448 and 640 x 448 to a new native resolution on the PS4 1292 x 896.

According to Techradar, a Sony representative confirmed the company is indeed working on bringing the massive PS2 library to the PS4 but could not elaborate on any details.

"We are working on utilizing PS2 emulation technology to bring PS2 games forward to the current generation. We have nothing further to comment at this point in time."

We will bring you more about PS4's backward compatibility as it becomes available. Until then check out how PS2 games run on the PS4 in the video below courtesy of DigitalFoundry:
