Olivia Pope attempts to discover the true intentions behind Momma Pope's plan of destruction. ABC

Season 3 of “Scandal” comes to a close on Thursday, April 17 but the high-energy series is not going out without a bang, or should we say bomb. In episode 17, viewers watched as Momma Pope set out on the loose with a bomb, and was rather set on mass destruction despite Pope & Associates attempts to cajole her. Olivia’s mother ended up evading her daughter and associates, and tricking them into believing that the bomb was planted at the high school Fitz was set to speak at. Rowan, Olivia’s father decided to work with Olivia and send his other daughter to the high school to stop Momma Pope, but it was too late, for him. When Olivia arrived Rowan was in a pool of his own blood, she desperately attempted to save him but too no avail.

Fortunately Olivia’s associates, had better luck than she did and were able to discover the true location of the bomb and the rest of Momma’s plan. So what’s in store for the Season 3 finale, “The Price of Free and Fair Elections,” well quite frankly, a lot. According to the episode 18 synopsis, “Election Day has arrived and nothing is off limits as the candidates try to capture votes. Meanwhile, Olivia tries to understand Maya’s motives and Charlie makes a very surprising move.” Momma Pope will succeed in her plan to set of the bomb at Senator Hightower’s funeral and due to Cyrus’s lack of communication with those at the funeral and in harm’s way, expect it to be a devastating explosion.

In the face of impending death, Olivia will attempt to understand her mother’s motives and desire for mass destruction. According to a spoiler report from CarterMatt, fans should expect a high body count and reveals that the election may be in jeopardy in the wake of the tragedy at Hightower’s funeral. In addition, actress Darby Stanchfield teased, "The finale explodes into a million different pieces. This set of characters, especially over at Olivia Pope & Associates, are more splintered off from each other than ever before. I mean, when we were shooting the episode, I actually thought to myself, 'I wonder if they're actually going to tear down the set and build a new one?' It's that extreme."
