Susana Duijm, the first Latina to ever win Miss Mundo and Venezuelan radio anchor has died at 79. Twitter

Venezuelan beauty queen and radio personality Susana Duijm passed away at 79. “It is with great sadness that the we announce the passing of our Susana Duijm, may she rest in peace,” Super Stereo 98.1 confirmed via Twitter.

The former beauty queen who became the first Latina to ever be crowned Miss Mundo in 1955, suffered a cerebrovascular accident last Thursday and was induced into a medical coma, which she never recovered from.

Duijm was also a radio personality in Venezuela with her own show called “De tono a tono con Susana” and another mini series of radio episodes, titled “La vuelta al mundo en 80 años,” alluding to her upcoming 80th birthday coming up on August 11.

Miss Venezuela organization also tweeted their condolences for the former beauty queen. “La Organización @MissVzla lamenta la pérdida de Susana Djuim. Nuestras condolencias para sus familiares y amigos” (The organization @MissVzla laments the loss of Susana Duijm. Our condolences to her family and friends).

Duijm’s remains were buried today at the Camposanto cemetery of Porlamar, in Margarita, in an intimate burial where the Venezuelan National Anthem was played, followed by the song “Venezuela.”
