Joaquín Guzmán -- "El Chapo"

'El Chapo' Guzmán was captured on Saturday morning in the beachside town of Mazatlan and since then, much has been made debated about who Joaquin Guzmán Loera really was. Some have claimed that 'El Chapo' remained poor and humble throughout his life, achieving something of a Robin Hood status in his home state of Sinaloa. However, in the days following his capture, it has been revealed that 'El Chapo' in fact led quite the lavish lifestyle.

'El Chapo' Guzmán was in fact the owner of over 45 luxury vehicles, according to a new report from Mexican authorities, among them three Mercedes Benz. One of them, the SLR Mercedes/McLaren is valued at well over $250,000 dollars US. He also owned a Mercedes Benz G and a Mercedes Benz SL 63 AMG, just three of the vehicles mentioned in a collection worth almost a million dollars. This, coupled with the complex security and communication systems in place suggest, unsurprisingly, that the 'Robin Hood' idea is a total fallacy.

'El Chapo' Guzman's sons Alfredo and Iván Guzmán, have done much to perpetuate the idea of their father as a powerful, wealthy kingpin. "El Chapo" Guzmán's son's have developed quite the Twitter following, with over 20K followers each. They regularly post pictures of themselves with expensive guns, private planes, wads of cash and other extravagancies. Drug trafficking is a multi-billion dollar industry: we at Latin Times find the idea of anyone benefitting from this empire as 'humble' quite laughable.
