Season 3 of “13 Reasons Why” has yet to have a premiere date, but rumors are already swirling around that the series is getting a Season 4. Earlier this week, a website reported that Netflix has already given its greenlight on the renewal of the series for another season, but the giant streaming site has yet to comment on the report.

According to the website, “13 Reasons Why” Season 4 will kick off production in California later this month. Russell Mulcahy will reportedly helm the premiere episode of the season, with Brian Yorkey writing the script.

Although Netflix has yet to officially announce the renewal of the series, it is highly likely that the series will still return for its fourth run following the upcoming season. Since its premiere, “13 Reasons Why” has established a strong fan base and has been a huge hit for Netflix.

The series revolves around the aftermath of high school student Hannah Baker’s suicide. Starring Dylan Minnette, Kate Walsh, Derek Luke, Brandon Flynn, Justin Prentice, Alisha Boe, Christian Navarro, Miles Heizer, Ross Butler, Devin Druid and Amy Hargreaves, “13 Reasons Why” is based on Jay Asher’s young adult novel of the same name . Since its premiere, it has proven to be one of the streaming site’s most controversial series because of its graphic scenes and “glorified” portrayal of suicide.

Several studies have linked “13 Reasons Why” to the 30-percent increase in suicide among children aged 10–17 in the months that followed the Season 1 premiere of the series. In an official statement, the Parents Television Council stated that Netflix has delivered a ticking time bomb to teens and children who watch the series.

“The content and thematic elements of the second season are even worse than we expected,” the council said. “We would have liked to have 13 reasons for hope and redemption following the graphic suicide of the lead female teen character, but rather than providing a path forward, the season only provides cause for despondency.”

Just this week, Netflix has edited out a highly controversial explicit scene showing the suicide of the main character in the series. The removal of the scene came two years after the series debuted on Netflix. “We believe this edit will help the show do the most good for the most people while mitigating any rusk for especially vulnerable young viewers,” Yorkey said.
