A 14-year-old Jordanian girl attempted to end her life by consuming 40 pills after a man threatened to expose her nude pictures and videos online, local media reported on Monday.

According to Roya news, the unnamed victim and the accused, who is in his twenties, first connected on Instagram in 2021. Their relationship developed over time and one day, he jokingly asked her to marry him.

The teen agreed and then began sending him nude photos of herself without revealing her face, reports said.

The accused sent her a nude picture of himself with a picture of weapons to threaten the minor. Then they exchanged intimate conversations and she sent him a video of her.

Later, when the teen asked him to end the relationship, the accused started threatening to expose everything and even threatened to send the pictures to the girl’s mother, according to reports.

The accused reportedly sent the girl’s nude videos and images to her brother’s friend, who then informed the girl’s brother.

On Monday, Aug. 1, the teen victim attempted to kill herself when her brother confronted her over the video, reports said.

The girl was rescued, after which she narrated her ordeal to her mother and filed a complaint against the accused.

The man was arrested, his phone was seized and the photos and videos were deleted.

The Grand Criminal Court has now sentenced the young man to seven years in jail with hard labor after being convicted of indecent assault.

A similar incident was reported last year when a 19-year-old killed herself after a man threatened to circulate her morphed photos on the internet.

The girl, who will not be named, consumed poison on June 11 last year. She died in the hospital the next day. She hailed from Singanallur, a residential neighborhood in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India.

Based on the complaint filed by the girl's father, Singanallura police arrested Keshavkumar aka Vijay Sethupathi, and his mother, 46-year-old Mangayarkaras on June 20, for abetting the teen's suicide.

As per the First Information Report, the girl met Keshavkumar at a bus stop near Singanallur in 2019. The two became close after Keshavkumar told her that he had fallen for her. The accused had clicked a few selfies with the victim during a college function.

The accused then allegedly started blackmailing the girl saying that he would morph her photographs and release them on social media.

During the investigation, officers learned that the suspect’s mother knew her son’s deeds and supported him in the crime.
