Honda has finally revealed the first official images of its new for 2013 mid-size sedan and coupe. Slated for release this fall, Honda claims the latest iteration is the "the most sculpted Accord ever."
Essentially an evolution rather than a revolution, Honda proudly presents an Accord with bolder design elements that moves its flagship into a more sophisticated and premium territory. The changes are subtle yet effective; a redesigned grille provides the creases that will carry on along the top of the hood, creating a sporty tension across the fascia. A strong character line begins ist stroke from aft of the front wheel arch and travels through the door handles and then upward to mimic motion. From the rear, the Accord features a sloping roofline tapering the C-pillers for a more sleek and purposeful profile. The tapered design also allows for lower drag for improved fuel efficiency.
Perhaps the most important aspect of the new Honda Accord's exterior is the shortened overall length of both the coupe and sedan. However, Honda boasts increased passenger and cargo space for both layouts despite the more compact design.
Assistant Vice President of product planning for American Honda Vicki Poponi explains, "This car is the most sculpted and the most dynamic Accord yet. Following Honda's long-held philosophy of 'man maximum, machine minimum,' the beautiful exterior evolved from a focus on interior space and the needs of the people inside it."
Honda did not disclose powertrain details for its new Accord but we expect an increase in horsepower and fuel efficiency from its 2.4 liter inline-4 engine as well as a possible hybrid powerplant as the range-topping model. Stay tuned for more information as we draw closer to the 2013 Honda Accord's official release.
All in all, 2013 is shaping up to be an important year for the midsize segment. With the recent high profile redesigns starting with the Camry, Altima, Malibu, and Fusion, which family car has drawn your attention most?
