Last week, McLaren revealed a teaser video that provided the first visual hints of its long anticipated flagship hypercar. Initially regarded as the P12 prototype, McLaren has finally revealed the first images of the near-production spec McLaren P1, the official successor to the legendary McLaren F1.
The McLaren P1 is the pinnacle of the brand's technical know-how and is engineered with only the most exotic materials and will apply only the most technical manufacturing processes. Initial reports suggest that the P1 will be built around McLaren's patented MonoCell single-piece carbon fiber architecture and will boast a curb weight falling below 2,700 lbs. A 3.8 liter twin-turbocharged V8 from the MP4-12C with a new hybrid KERS (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) drivetrain is expected to push the power output beyond 803-hp. According to managing director Antony Sheriff, the P1 is "the most exciting, most capable, most technologically advanced and most dynamically accomplished supercar ever made--not necessarily to be the fastest in absolute top speed but to be the quickest and most rewarding series production road car on a circuit."

Unfortunately, the images do not represent the final production version of the P1, but an extensively thought out design preview. The true production version won't be unveiled for at least a couple of months and the P1's market debut won't be until the end of next year.
Beyond the incredibly stunning set of images, details on the P1 remain scarce. Be sure to tune in as we learn more about McLaren's ultimate supercar.
