The 2015 Mustang is undoubtedly one of the most highly anticipated 2015 model year vehicles and perhaps the most important new car to join the Ford lineup. Big changes have been hinted on the upcoming 2015 Ford Mustnag and it's finally time to figure out what's what.

According to "Car and Driver" magazine, the 2015 Mustang will carry over both the 3.7 liter V6 engine as well as the 5.0 V8, which currently produce 305 hp and 420 hp, respectively. What's more, the next Mustang will also be available with a third powertrain.

A 2.3 liter turbocharged 4-cylinder Ecoboost engine producing 310 hp will mark a new Mustang unlike anything Pony car fans have ever seen. Expect the Ecoboost 4-cylinder engine to slot over the naturally aspirated V6 engine and boast stronger number specs, both in terms of performance and fuel efficiency. As for the 3.7 V6 and the 5.0 V8, sources admit that there will not be too many changes performed on the base V6. However, the brand expects the 5.0 to receive a healthy tune to 500 hp. Finally, a 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 is also being developed for the car. However, Autoguide reports the engine will not make it to the Mustang until at least 2017.

The next Shelby GT500 will continue to boast a supercharged 5.8 liter V8, which currently produces 662 hp. Expect the next GT500 to deliver significantly more than that. Sources also suggest other specialty Mustangs will be offered, including a Shelby GT350 model featuring a rad twin-turbo V8 code named "Voodoo." The Ecoboost V8 is expected to put out as much as 600 hp.

It's no secret that Ford intended to reimagine the Mustang as a modern coupe. In fact, the Dearborn automaker is working with General Motors to create a cutting edge 10-speed gearbox. At the same time, Ford is thoroughly aware of the Mustang's muscle roots and has maintained the good old six-speed manual transmission.

Finally, the 2015 Mustang will finally retire the live rear axle for an independent rear suspension for all trims and variants. An all-around independent suspension setup has not existsed since the 2004 SVT Cobra. Ford is confident that the new suspension as well as the 200-pound weight reduction will greatly improve the handling of the new car.
