ABC's "World News Tonight" has two new anchors as the network just announced. Cecilia Vega, who used to work for the local news in San Francisco, before starting at ABC in 2011, will be on the broadcast on Saturdays, and Tom Llamas, who comes to ABC from NBC's New York affiliate, will work on Sundays. The two have been filling in for David Muir who used to be the weekend anchor but then took over on weekdays since last September, when Diane Sawyer stepped down. Additionally ABC News president James Goldston also announced Llamas and Vega will be part of the political team heading into the 2016 elections.
Goldston sent a memo to his entire staff announcing the “exciting news” and explaining the new additions’ backgrounds and credentials. “He’s reported from some of the most important breaking news events in recent history, including Hurricane Katrina, the Haiti earthquake and the Boston Marathon bombing,” Goldston wrote about Llamas; and “Prior to joining ABC News, Cecilia was an Emmy Award-winning journalist for KGO in San Francisco and award-winning print reporter,” he wrote about Vega.
To conclude his exciting-news memo, Goldston asked his staff to give the two a warm welcome: “Please join me in congratulating Cecilia and Tom on their new roles joining the great team at “World News Tonight” and kicking off 617 days of exceptional political journalism.”
