“Más Negro Qué La Noche” is an update of the legendary 1975 Mexican classic horror film with the same name. The movie is the first 3D Mexican horror film and it tells the story of an eccentric old woman who passes away and leaves her opulent mansion to her niece, Greta. When Greta decides to spend the summer at the house with her friends, they think they’re in for the best three months of their lives. At one point, they lose track of Greta’s aunt’s beloved cat Beker, who they later find out had drowned in the pool. It all goes downhill from them as Greta and her friends attempt to run for their lives. We got a chance to talk to Adriana Louvier, who portrays one of Greta’s best friends, María:

Latin Times: How do you prepare for a role like this?

Adriana Louvier: Well, we didn’t have a lot of time to prepare before we started filming. There were a lot of talks with the directors, producers and some table readings but all in all, we all tried our best to focus and put our hearts in it while we were filming, every night.

LT: How is making a horror film different from making any other genre?

AL: You know, there’s something very particular about making a horror movie because most scenes you’re acting and responding to special effects and stimulus that aren’t real, and aren’t there on set with you, so you really have to use your imagination a lot and be very focused. I think immediate reactions, without overthinking about the moment work very well. In this case it was also different since it’s a 3D movie too.

LT: Before this film, did you have a favorite horror movie that inspired you?

AL: Honestly I did take references from other movies like reactions and such, but the director had a very clear vision of what he wanted so most of the work to create the characters was done on set.

LT: Do you believe in these things?

AL: Well, I don’t necessarily believe in the things that happen in the movie but sometimes I do feel like we’re not the only ones here. I think supernatural things do happen sometimes.

LT: What is you recurring nightmare?

AL: It’s been a while since I don’t have nightmares but it used to be water-related or falling from somewhere?

LT: Because those are your biggest fears?

AL: I’m terrified of heights, yeah. I’d say that is my one phobia.

LT: What’s next in your future, Adriana?

AL: I’ve had a great year, I made three films, two of them are already out and I’d been focusing on film for a while but now I’m going back to TV with a telenovela which just started in the US called “Quiero amarte” with Christian de la Fuente and another one in Mexico called “Yo no creo en los hombres,” where Gabriel Soto and I are the leads. For next year I have another film which is an adaptation of a play called “Los árboles mueren de pie,” a romantic drama from the 50s.

LT: Do you have a preference between working on film or TV?

AL: I actually don’t. They’re very different so it depends on the project I’m working on. What I most enjoy is the process of rehearsing for a play; that I really like doing.
