A body was discovered in the trunk of a car after it crashed on an expressway in Florida on Sunday. The police identified the body as 25-year-old Brian Trotter, who was reported to be missing earlier this October.

Authorities found the body after smelling a “foul odor” and spotting flies buzzing around inside the car of Robert Avery Coltrain, who got into a car accident in suburban Miami on Sunday afternoon. Coltrain was a longtime friend of Brian Trotter.

The victim, more popularly known as “Kent Won’t Stop,” disappeared on Oct. 17 in Triangle, Virginia after being picked up by Coltrain. His father said Trotter and Coltrain said they would go take pictures in Washington, D.C., that day but his son never returned.

“I told him, ‘I love you,’ and he said, ‘I love you,’” said Trotter’s father. He recalled that when Trotter never came home, they called Coltrain and immediately filed a missing-persons report. However, they started to doubt Coltrain after he gave them conflicting explanations. In one instance, Coltrain claimed he had dropped his friend off in Washington. However, he also said another friend had picked him up after their engagement in Washington.

According to police, Trotter’s family was in desperate search for him when Coltrain drove to Florida and met a crash on Palmetto Expressway. When they arrived, they discovered a Glock .45 pistol inside his car.

The police believe that Coltrain used the pistol to shoot Trotter to death. Inside the trunk, they found Trotter’s body wrapped in a piece of fabric. It was already in an advanced stage of decomposition.

The police have yet to determine Coltrain’s motive for the murder, especially since the suspect and the victim had been good friends for more than a decade. “No one can understand what happened,” said Trotter’s father. “Hopefully, the police can shed a light on what made a friend of over 10 years decide to commit something like that,” he added.

Robert Avery Coltrain was arrested on a second-degree murder charge in the killing of Trotter and was booked into a Miami-Dade jail on Monday.
