
Boston's triumphant return to Marathon glory has had its fair share of Latino participants. Of the 242 Mexican runners who began the epic journey, 195 managed to cross the finish line, according to official results. Jesús Arreola Acosta, 38, from Mexico City, crossed the line fastest in two hours and 41 minutes, putting him in 377th place out of the 36 thousand competitors who participated in the epic endurance test. The race was won by American Meb Keflezighi won the race.
Mexico's second fastest time came from Emiliano García, 31, who lives in New York City, who finished in a time of 2:45:32, putting him in 621st spot. The third fastests Mexican was Juan Reyes, 32, from Phoenix, Arizona, who clocked a time of 2:49:07, giving him the 885th spot in the enormous field. The Boston Marathon took on special significance this year, given last year's tragedy, and was watched by almost a million people throughout the city.
Meb Keflezighi became the first American to win the race since 1983. In one of the most competetive fields ever assembled Keflezighi managed a time of 2:08:37, giving him a personal best and the fastest time ever recorded at the Boston Marathon. Kenya's Ria Jeptoo was the fastests woman of the the day with a time of 2:28:57, creating a new record for the women's competition at the Boston Marathon. The successful event was kept under tight security surveillance.
