Close your eyes and imagine the sensation of topping out on the German Autobahn. Amplify that feeling by 100 times and you'll get a sense of America's Bonneville Salt Flats. Those who don't understand call it a 'death wish' and those who do understand affectionately call the addiction 'salt fever.' A natural wonder, Bonneville possesses a surface so flat and expansive that one could visually see the curvature of the Earth. This is the land where humans dare to conquer speed.
The previous APF3000 naked bike land speed record was 168.912 mph, set by Wink Ellis last year. Now, James Hoegh dedicated his efforts to create a machine that can dethrone the record -- enter the Confederate Z132 Hellcat Combat prototype.
Featuring a heavily tuned 132 cubic-inch S&S XWedge engine, the Hellcat Combat rocketed across the lake bed at a speed of 172.211 mph. Besting the previous record by more than 3 mph, check out James Hoegh's amazing run in the video below. Want to try it for yourself? Motorcycle company Confederate confirms that a limited edition Combat Hellcat street bike will be available next year. Visit Confederate Motorcycle's website here.
