After a memorable 22-year career with the New York Yankees, Derek Jeter announced that the 2014 season will be his last. As the Yankees are eliminated from postseason contention, the Thursday, Sept. 25, game against the Orioles will be Jeter's final game at the Yankee Stadium. Despite tonight's rain forecast, the Daily News reports that a raincheck is highly unlikely.

''I think [Thursday] will be the culmination of all the love he has been shown and all the appreciation he has been shown this year and his career,'' Yankees manager Joe Girardi said. ''I think it'll be something we'll remember for a long time.''

Derek Jeter's departure from the sport will mark the end of one of the most dominant eras for the New York Yankees. Derek Jeter is regarded as the central figure that propeled the Yankees to become five-time World Series champions during the late 1990's to early 2000's following a 17-year drought.

Jeter is also Yankee's all-time record holder for hits (3,461), games played (2,744), stolen bases (358), and at bats (11,186). Jeter is also honored 14 All-Star selections, five Gold Glove Awards, five Silver Slugger Awards, two Hank Aaron Awards, and a Roberto Clemente Award. Derek Jeter is the all-time MLB leader in hits by a shortstop, and is regarded as only the 28th player in history to reach 3,000 hits.

Most of all, Jeter is remembered for his leadership, his sportsmanship, and his passion for the sport. Here are 20 inspiring quotes from Derek Jeter over his illustrious career:
