They say that cash is king, but the convenience of shopping and paying with a credit card is just too tempting that most people probably own more than one plastic inside their wallets. But it’s interesting to see if Queen Elizabeth II or other members of the royal family such as Prince William or Prince Harry have already learned to use plastic as well.

Of course credit cards are not a necessity to senior royals, considering that they have an army of household staff to do things for them. They do things such as grocery shopping or booking for hotels and flights for the royals. Virtually everything is already arranged for, and the royals could get what they want without even lifting a finger

While these ultra-rich royals don’t really need credit cards as they go about their day-to-day lives, that doesn’t mean they don’t have one. This holds true, especially among members of the royal family who belong to the younger generation.

For instance, both Prince William and Kate Middleton are known for using credit cards when making purchases. In fact, the Duke of Cambridge already had plastic when he was still in his early teens.

“There was a report that allegedly Prince William was given a credit card with a £500 limit at the age of 14,” Karen Beasley wrote on Quora. She went on to narrate an instance where Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, bought a wetsuit but realized she forgot her credit card as she was about to pay at the counter.

Meghan has not announced owning a credit card, but considering that she’s from the U.S., where plastic is the norm, it’s likely that she still has a card or two just in case she needs to pay for something. Harry, who used to be a party lover, must have used credit cards in paying those tabs as it would be too conspicuous and dangerous to carry wads of cash on his way to the bar.

While some people think that Queen Elizabeth does not own and use a credit card, a Forbes report suggests otherwise. Apparently, Her Majesty owns plastic issued by the London-based private bank Coutts and Co.

But it’s not just an ordinary credit card — Coutts' purple World Mastercard Signia Card is reported to be the British bank’s counterpart to the ultra-exclusive Amex Black card. “It is the one said to be held by celebrities like Victoria ‘Posh Spice’ Beckham and royals, including the queen,” Forbes wrote. “It whispers wealth like no other.”
