Actress Eva Longoria is not only known for playing Gabby Solis on "Desperate Housewives" and her sartorial sense, but also for her social efforts to better the lives of Hispanics/Latinos residing in the United States. One such endeavor of the actress and political activist is her Latino Initiative -- called the "Latino Victory Project" -- which she launched with Henry Muñoz III, a Texas philanthropist and Democratic National Committee (DNC) finance chair.
“So the Latino Victory Project is going to do three things,” says the actress of her efforts. “We’re going to develop future Latino leaders. We’re going to mobilize support for those future leaders and existing leaders today. And then we’re also going to shape public policy.”
This week, the The Republican National Committee has accused the actress of having a Democratic agenda more than a liberal agenda, claiming that she failed to name any Republican candidates entitled of the group's support.
"You didn’t highlight the leadership of Marco Rubio and Ted Cruz, who are two of only three Hispanic U.S. senators," the RNC wrote in a letter obtained by Buzzfeed. "Nor did you mention either of the nation’s Latino governors -- Brian Sandoval of Nevada and Susana Martinez of New Mexico -- both of whom are Republicans."
The Latino Victory Project has gone on record to disregard the accusations made by the GOP.
“It’s ridiculous that the RNC would question our mission to raise the political participation among Latinos,” said Cristobal Alex, the Latino Victory Project’s president. “This sense of justice doesn’t seem to affect them."
“At the same time the RNC is working to restrict the right to vote and diminish Latino voting power,” added Alex, “Instead of attacking organizations such as ours, they should be looking at ways to attack these disparities.”
