
The defense in the George Zimmerman trial is currently questioning a witness who called 911 in February 2012 and reported that he heard someone yelling for help and gunshots.

Defense attorney Mark O'Mara is trying to prove that his client Zimmerman shot and killed 17-year-old Trayvon Martin in self-defense. The prosecution is saying that Zimmerman profiled Martin because he was a young, black male fitting the description of burglars that had been breaking into homes in Zimmerman's neighborhood.

One night in February 2012 Zimmerman saw Martin out on the street and called 911 saying he was following a suspicious looking person. The truth about what happened next depends on whose side you are on. If you agree with the self-defense claim Martin attacked Zimmerman because the neighborhood watchman was following him. Zimmerman claims the teen attacked him and started bashing his head against the curb, leaving Zimmerman with no option but to shoot Martin.

The prosecution is arguing that Zimmerman shot the unarmed teen after racially profiling the young, black man wearing a hoodie because he was fed up with the string of robberies committed in his community.
For two days the prosecution had Rachel Jeantel on the stand giving testimony about the last time she spoke to Trayvon Martin. Jeantel has been described as the prosecution's star witness as well as a witness that was unreliable and may have damaged the state's case.
The Trayvon Martin murder has caught the attention of the nation and started a debate in this country between those who say Martin was a victim of racial profiling and those who say Zimmerman acted in self-defense and for no other reason.
