Gwen Stefani has been having a good year, with things going happily well with her partner Blake Shelton, as well as her highly anticipated return to reality television show “The Voice” for Season 17. However, things have just gotten difficult for the “No Doubt” singer as her past has allegedly come back to stall her happiness.

Stefani has reportedly filed a petition to the Vatican to have her marriage with Gavin Rossdale annulled in order to push through with her plans for the future with boyfriend and fellow “The Voice” coach Blake Shelton. According to the teachings of the Catholic Church, they will not recognize a marriage after divorce unless it has been annulled.

Stefani, who is reportedly devoutly religious, wishes to have a Catholic wedding, thus pushing through with her petition. However, Stefani’s “biggest nightmare” has allegedly come true, with Rossdale reportedly “refusing to play ball.” “The church cannot condone a marriage after a divorce — unless the marriage isn’t recognized in the first place — and Gavin refuses to say their marriage never existed,” said a source in Radar Online’s article.

The church had contacted Rossdale and informed him of what the annulment would mean for him, and the English rock star allegedly went “ballistic” over it. Despite being informed that this would not mean that his children with Stefani — 13-year-old Kingston, 10-year-old Zuma and 5-year-old Apollo — will turn illegitimate, he still would not change his decision.

“This is turning into a disaster because the kids are caught in the middle of this ongoing war,” claimed the source. “Gavin isn’t going to pretend he wasn’t married just because it makes Gwen’s life easier. He thinks it’s wrong and stupid. He isn’t going to let Gwen sweep their marriage under the rug,” the source also said.

The article also claims that Shelton may not care for getting married in a church — as he is not Catholic — but this issue has “thrown a wrench” in their wedding plans. This comes at the tail of the recent rumors that the two have been planning their wedding, which Shelton had simply laughed off. The respective spokespersons of the celebrities have refused to comment further on the matter.
