Meghan Markle is no pushover and Chelsea Clinton loves it about her. Her mom, Hillary Clinton also defended the controversial royal in a recent interview and shared that the treatment that Markle has been getting in the UK is bordering on being racist.

In a recent interview with UK’s The Sunday Times, Hillary Clinton did not hide her support for the Duchess of Sussex. Even though the former “Suits” star does not have a stellar reputation in the United Kingdom, the former secretary of state and her daughter viewed her as being praiseworthy for all that she’s doing.

Both cannot understand why she’s being treated so poorly. "I do want to say that the way she's been treated is inexplicable," Hillary said in this joint interview with her daughter, Chelsea. She then added that she believes Markle is being discriminated for her race.

Hillary said Meghan's race is "certainly part” of all that is happening to her. "If the explanation is that she's biracial, then shame on everybody," she said.

Chelsea then also contributed another idea on why Markle is being criticized left and right. "She proudly had a career first and has a voice that she thankfully continues to use," she said. "Anyone who has the temerity to break the mold of what has previously been established and expected often, unfortunately, receives criticism and bile that I don’t understand. We’ve seen this pattern repeatedly,” she added.

Hillary's daughter then said she’s especially grateful that Markle is a strong person not bowing down to bullies. "I don’t know her, but as someone who respects her, I’m so grateful that she persists and is unbowed and is doing work she feels called to do. And isn’t willing to be bullied," she said.

Prince Harry and Meghan announced their decision to sue Associated Newspapers on Oct. 1, showing that they are certainly cowing under all the negative writeups against them since they’ve been together.
