Kate Middleton and Prince William were previously involved in a major scandal. The couple’s request for privacy fell on deaf ears in 2012.

At that time, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were vacationing in Provence, France, when a photo of topless Kate made frontpage news. Prince William and his wife were staying at a private chateau owned by Lord Linley at that time.

Sources revealed that when the couple found out what happened, they were both furious and hurt. They had no idea that their private photos could be taken while they were vacationing at a private location.

Prince William and Kate immediately took matters into their own hands by suing the French publication that released the mom of three’s photos. In the pixelated snap, Kate is wearing a bikini, and she’s also about to remove her bra top.

“Their sadness has turned to anger and disbelief as we have learned more about the photographs,” a spokesperson for Prince William told Daily Mail. “We believe a red line has been crossed and we are consulting the French lawyers to see what, if any, action can be taken,” the spokesperson added.

A statement from Kensington Palace was also released. Prince William and Kate expressed their disappointment over the incident and also said that what happened was reminiscent of what Princess Diana experienced when she was still alive.

Meanwhile, Kate’s intimate photos were released while Prince William and Kate were in Malaysia for his Jubilee tour. Onlookers said that while the royal couple was walking on the red carpet of the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, it became evident that they were both upset. The heir to the throne didn’t look to his left or to his right.

A photo of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge also made headlines at that time. In the snap, Kate carefully placed her hand on her husband’s back in an attempt to console him. But insiders said that it was also evident that Kate was frustrated over the whole fiasco.

Years later, it was reported that Prince William and Kate won the case. The French publication paid them £100,000 in damages.
