Queen Elizabeth’s grudging acceptance of Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles’ relationship affected the Duchess of Cornwall’s poll ratings. Years ago, royal fans thought that the royal family will never accept the couple’s relationship because it destroyed Prince Charles and Princess Diana’s marriage.

But when the Queen finally relented and showed her support for the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall’s relationship in 2000, things improved for the latter. In the documentary “Wallis Simpson – Royal Stories – Episode 5 – Camilla Parker Bowles,” the founder of MORI, Sir Robert Milton Worcester, expressed his views on the matter. “The poll is at a higher level, which may be the effect of the Queen’s perhaps grudging acceptance of Camilla and Prince Charles’ consort,” he said.

When Prince Charles and Camilla started dating, the Queen took some time before she acknowledged their relationship. After all, there was so much controversy surrounding the royal couple’s reunion because the future king cheated on the Princess of Wales with Camilla.

But in the end, the Queen’s desire for her eldest son to be genuinely happy encouraged her to accept his new relationship. The monarch first met the Duchess of Cornwall during the 60th birthday party of King Constantine at Highgrove in Gloucestershire.

The Queen’s acceptance of Prince Charles and Camilla’s relationship was seen as a huge step. Just two years before King Constantine’s party, Her Majesty refused to attend Prince Charles’ 50th birthday celebration because Camilla was there.

Years later, royal expert Christopher Wilson explained why the Queen might have had a change of heart. He said that the royal fans are quite forgiving, so the monarch might have felt that the sooner she addressed Prince Charles and Camilla’s relationship, it would be much better.

He also said that at that time, the British public was ready to see some dramatic changes in the life of Prince Charles. The heir to the throne tied the knot with Camilla in a civil ceremony three years after the latter first met Her Majesty. Until today, the couple is still together, and they have been such a great support system for each other.
