It was only a matter of time before someone broke iOS 9's coding for a jailbreak and Chinese team Pangu has done it. The team today released the first untethered jailbreak for iOS 9 devices, including the iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus.

As of now the tool is only available on Windows, but an OS X version is on the way for Mac users reports MacRumors. Pangu is currently compatible with all iPhone, iPad and iPod touch models running both iOS 9 and iOS 9.0.2. Check out the complete list of compatible iOS devices below:

  • iPhone 4S, 5/5c/5s, 6/6 Plus, 6s/6s Plus
  • iPad 2/3/4, iPad Air, iPad Air 2, iPad mini, iPad mini 2/3/4
  • iPod touch (fifth and sixth generations)

Jailbreaks have been around since the early days of the iPhone and allows users to to install unapproved third-party apps, tweaks, mods, custom themes, utilities and other content from Cydia, which is an unofficial App Store for jailbroken devices.

iPhone Hack notes that Cydia Substrate now supports iOS 9. Cydia developers will be required to update their jailbreak tweaks for compatibility with iOS 9 or later. The blog recently shared a list of all iOS 9 compatible jailbreak tweaks, which you can check out here.

If you decide to use the jailbreak remember to back up your data through iTunes first as you may encounter various issue or errors that could result in data loss or worse. Pangu does offer a step-by-step instruction guide on how to install the iOS 9 untethered jailbreak on its website.

While jailbreaking your device does add a new element of customization to your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch by doing so you do violate your End User License Agreement and that in turn voids your warranty. So use the jailbreak at your own risk.
