After ten years of marriage, Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner decided to separate in 2015. However, the “Alias” actress did something most ex-wives would never do – she stood by her ex-husband until he was able to get back on his feet ever after their separation.

Though their marriage did not last, Garner waited for Affleck, who was dealing with alcohol addiction, to heal himself before finalizing their divorce. “Jen wanted to give Ben the time and opportunity to work on his health and sobriety … she isn’t in a rush,” a source close to the ex-couple said, LeasonsLearnedInLife.com reported.

Their divorce was finalized in November 2018, three years since the filing. During this time, Garner remained supportive of Affleck’s treatment and was even seen driving him to rehab in LA.

Affleck, on the other hand, is thankful for his ex-wife’s efforts in helping him sober up. “He is very appreciative of Jen being so supportive and giving him a chance to get better. She has always been there for him and continues to be," an insider once revealed.

Understandably, Garner wanted Affleck to get better for the sake of their three children. Perhaps a stronger factor why they remained supportive of each other, despite their separation, is that they never lost the love and respect they had for each other.

“He’s the love of my life. What am I going to do about that? He’s the most brilliant person in any room, the most charismatic, the most generous,” Garner told Vanity Fair in a 2016 interview, a year after they separated.

In fact, she said that she’d do it all over again even if it meant divorcing him in the end. “And I would go back and remake that decision. I ran down the beach to him, and I would again. You can’t have these three babies and so much of what we had,” the actress said.

Affleck never lost his feelings for his ex-wife as well. In an interview with Hoda Kotb on the “Today” show, he admitted that he still loves Garner.

“Of course, she’s wonderful. Somebody’s the mother of your kids, they’re going to be the most important, central person in your life, and that’s good,” the “Daredevil” actor said, according to HuffPost.

Garner, likewise, admitted that she would not have wanted the divorce to happen. “I would not have chosen this life for myself or for my kids. I would not choose to be single or be in this position. It’s something that we are working through,” she told news.com.au in 2017.

Of course, both parties eventually moved on with their romantic lives. After seeing the Affleck complete his alcohol treatment, Garner moved on with her romantic life and is now dating businessman John Miller.
