
In the age of social media, nothing gets by unnoticed.
Last night, Vice President Joe Biden took on Congressman Paul Ryan in a debate moderated by Martha Raddatz of ABC News.
Like last week's first presidential debate, the VPs had some very memorable moments. While many issues were discussed, the social media universe seemed to pay particular attention to Biden's constant laughing, smiling, grinning and smirking.
According to Twitter, 4 million Tweets were sent mentioning the debate, 3.5 million of which occurred during the 92 minutes of live action.
Twitter said Thursday night's top Tweets per minute (TPM) peaks came courtesy of Biden.
When Biden asked, "Now you're Jack Kennedy?" Twitter activity spiked to its highest level of the night. with over 58,000 tweets per minutes.
Last week's presidential debate was the most tweeted-about event in U.S. politics, with more than 10 million Tweets.
During the debate, a Twitter account called @LaughinJoeBiden was created and features several pictures of Biden laughing throughout the debate. As of the time this was written, the account over 8,600 followers.
As if @LaughinJoeBiden wasn't enough, another account, @Bidensmirk emerged.
"How do I translate Paul Ryan's comments? Through my#BidenSmirk... #VPDebate" the account handler tweeted.
According to ABC News, "about 6 percent of tweets mentioned Biden's laughing, which typically came during Ryan's answers."
Dennis Miller tweeted that he was "magnanimous towards Biden."
"Why's Biden smirking? Biden's incessant smile is reminding me of the Cleveland Indian's Hat Logo which is reminding me of baseball. Adios."
Obama joined others and took to Twitter to give his thoughts about the debate.
"Tonight proved once again that you won't find a better and more tireless advocate for the middle class than @JoeBiden. -bo #TeamJoe," he wrote.
"Every channel declaring a Biden victory! Biden def delivered the facts tonight and held Ryan accountable for the lies! #TeamJoe," actress Eva Longoria tweeted.
Newt Gingrich also got in on the action.
"Ryan was overwhelmingly better in the close," he tweeted. "Biden rambled and seemed distracted. Ryan was clear, firm, precise and effective."
"Finally, if Obama had been this strong, the election would be over now," Bill Maher tweeted. "I predict he will be in the next two, so off the ledge, Sullivan!"
