The son of TV's Judge Judy has been accused of interfering in a child rape involving a man that is his personal trainer and who lived with him for a time.

Putnam County (N.Y.) District Attorney Adam Levy, the son of Judge Judy Sheindlin, has allegedly attempted to affect the investigation of Alexandru Hossu, according to Sheriff Donald Smith. Hossu was arrested and charged with allegedly raping a 12-year-old girl twice in 2010.

"He is apparently trying to influence and affect the investigation, which could be perceived as an ethical violation of his official duties and perhaps even as an attempt to undermine it," said Smith.

The now 15-year-old, whose name is being withheld, recently reported the rape to police that led to Hossu's arrest. He was in court briefly on Tuesday and is due back on May 7.

Levy's alleged involvement in this case is not the first time that he and the Sheriff has clashed. In the past it was traffic tickets that the two disagreed about. More recently, Levy made a veiled criticism of the sheriff's office. On Monday night, Levy accused the sheriff of making "unfounded allegations and misstatements."

"My office acted properly in every aspect of the investigation," Levy said in a statement.

Levy also insisted that he recused himself from the case due to his family knowing Hossu for years and asked a neighboring county to handle the case. The sheriff was not satisfied by Levy recusing himself and alleged that Hossu has been in the country illegally for 12 years. According to The Daily Mail Hossu, who is originally from Romania, came the United States on a visa. His visa expired 12 years ago and has been in the United States illegally since then, all the while working for the district attorney and living in his million-dollar home in New York.

A relative of the alleged victim told The Journal News that Hossu would discuss his relationship with Levy and that everyone knew who he was and who he worked for.

"I knew he was working for the D.A. Alex told everybody that," the relative said. "She [the girl's mother] told me that he's an illegal alien, back when I first heard about him, years ago. Everybody knew that."

Levy claims that he "had absolutely no idea whatsoever about the Hossu's immigration status" and that an investigation will show that Hossu did have a valid driver's license and Social Security number. Sheriff Smith responded.

"In my view, Mr. Levy's comments and actions would seem to suggest that, if he could have his own way, Mr. Hossu would never have been brought to justice for his crime and Mr. Levy's relationship with him would have never been brought to the light of public scrutiny."

Levy's mother, Judge Judy released a statement regarding her son's involvement in the case.

"The sole focus of this story should be the investigation as to whether a young girl was the victim of a very serious crime," Sheindlin said through her spokesman Gary Rosen.
