In an interview with the LA Times, Tetsuya Nomura said that "Kingdom Hearts 3" will offer a conclusion to the conflicts presented throughout the core games, but not the overall series. So fans should expect a chapter of Kingdom Hearts to end, but not the series as a whole.
"In Kingdom Hearts 3, the battles that the characters have been fighting for the past 10 years will come to a conclusion," Nomura said. "But the series will continue. Only the particular enemy they have been fighting for the past 10 years will come to an end."

Speaking about the game Nomura explained that "Kingdom Hearts 3" isn't necessarily part of a "trilogy." However, it will wrap up story elements present since the first game which was released in 2002.
"As a core game, this is finally the third, and 10 years have passed," Nomura said. "I couldn't call this a trilogy. There have been so many spinoffs. In Kingdom Hearts 3, the battles that the characters have been fighting for the past 10 years will come to a conclusion. That is the plan. But the series will continue. Only the particular enemy they have been fighting the past 10 years will come to an end."
