Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert called for a special counsel to look into the Jeffrey Epstein files and nominated former Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz, who himself was accused of sex trafficking and paying for sex with a minor.
The staunch MAGA supporter said during an appearance on "The Benny Show" Tuesday that "no one is satisfied with what has been received, or lack thereof." While she praised FBI Deputy Director Dan Bongino as an "honorable, standup man" who was also frustrated with the files' rollout, Boebert was cautious in her comments about Attorney General Pam Bondi, as calls for both Trump officials to resign continue to grow.
"Moving forward, we need a special counsel. That has got to happen," Boebert declared in a clip shared by host Benny Johnson on X. "There has to be a special investigation into this if we are going to be provided information," she continued, before again praising Trump, Bondi and the FBI.
The 38-year-old Republican said she hopes the Epstein files don't become a "false idol" for members of her party, distracting them from other priorities. Still, she emphasized that Republicans want answers.
"I want answers, and maybe that takes that special counsel to do so," Boebert said before nominating Gaetz to lead it. When asked whether she would vote in favor of Gaetz leading the counsel, Boebert responding with a resounding "absolutely," adding that the former congressman has spoken highly of Bondi, crowning her "the best attorney general that President Trump has had."

Former Florida Congressman Gaetz withdrew from consideration for Attorney General under President Donald Trump in January, following a House Ethics Committee finding that he paid a 17-year-old for sex in 2017, CNN reported. While the Department of Justice had previously investigated Gaetz in connection with similar allegations, it ultimately declined to file charges.
In 2021, Gaetz was also accused of involvement in a child sex trafficking ring tied to his associate Joel Greenberg, who pleaded guilty to six federal charges, including sex trafficking of a minor, and was sentenced to 11 years in prison, CNN reported at the time.
Elsewhere, Boebert praised the Trump administration's Department of Homeland Security for becoming a "mass deportation machine on steroids."
"Now they have the funding to go after it even more," Boebert added with glee.
