A woman along with her lover has been accused of the murder of her husband in the village of Phullanwal, Ludhiana. After committing the murder the accused made attempts to make the death appear as a road accident and took the victim to a hospital nearby. The accused have been arrested after confessing to the crime later, said reports.

32-year-old Surinder Gupta, a vegetable vendor, has been identified as the victim. Gudia Devi, 30, of Phullanwal, and Shailendra Kumar, 38, of Jawaddi have been identified as the accused.

Based on a statement by the victim's sister Shuda Devi of Fatehpur, Uttar Pradesh, an FIR for murder was registered at Sadar police station under Section 302 of IPC.

According to Inspector Gurpreet Singh of Sadar police station, the relationship between Gudia Devi and Shailendra Kumar has been going on for at least a decade. Surinder was well aware of his wife's affair and even tried to prevent her from meeting Shailendra, he added.

Prior to his murder Surinder Gupta had arguments with his wife over her extramarital affairs after which Gudia Devi asked Shailendra Kumar to come to their accommodation. The victim was then escorted outside the house by the accused with the idea of discussing the matter before being attacked with an iron rod.

As reported by the media, the SHO (Station House Officer) said “On October 14, Surinder Gupta had a verbal spat with his wife over her illicit relations. Following the wordy duel, Gudia Devi asked Shailendra Kumar to come to their rented accommodation. The accused took Gupta with them on the pretext of discussing the issue. After walking 500 meters away from the rented house, the accused attacked him with an iron rod.”.

“The accused then rushed the victim to a hospital claiming that he met with a road accident. The doctors referred him to Rajindra Hospital, Patiala, where he succumbed to his injuries,” the SHO added.

According to autopsy reports, Surinder Gupta's death occurred due to a head injury that was inflicted by an unsharpened weapon. The unfortunate victim is survived by his two sons who are aged seven and five.
