An abusive husband has been accused of thrashing his wife with a wooden stick and killing her out of anger after she forgot to cook rice for him in Bhiwandi, Thane, Mumbai, India on Tuesday, May 24.

The accused, identified as Shankar Waghmare, a scrap dealer and resident of Balaram Chaudhari Chawl, Khoni village in Nizampura, reportedly married the victim, Jyotsna, only about a year ago. According to Waghmare's neighbors, the couple constantly engaged in heated arguments and fights over petty issues.

On Tuesday, when Waghmare came back home, he noticed that his wife had not cooked rice for him. This led to an angry confrontation between the couple. In a fit of rage, Waghmare allegedly picked up a wooden stick and began bludgeoning Jyotsna with it. She reportedly continued thrashing the victim until she died at the scene, Hindustan Times reported.

When their neighbors tried to intervene and stop the assault, they found Jyotsna lying unconscious in a pool of her own blood. The group held the accused and immediately alerted the police about the violent incident.

The authorities subsequently took Waghmare into custody and booked him for murder. Following the woman's death, an autopsy was conducted on her body. The postmortem examination revealed that the deceased died after suffering multiple injuries in her head, stomach, and backbone.
