Nabisco defends Wholesome with Love. Nabisco

Nabisco's “This is Wholesome” commercial created some controversy. The 30-second advertisement showed a male homosexual couple raising a baby. A tattooed man eats Teddy Grahams and plays the drum as his daughter dances with his wife in the living room. A white father and a black mother play with their children. The beautiful commercial ended with “No matter how things change, what makes us wholesome never will. Honey Maid. Everyday wholesome snacks for every wholesome family. This is wholesome.”

Of course, right wing conservatives were up in arms about the images the video portrayed. Twitter was abuzz with some negative comments, while the One Million Moms organization posted the following: “Nabisco should be ashamed of themselves for their latest Honey Maid and Teddy Graham cracker commercial where they attempt to normalize sin...This commercial not only promotes homosexuality, but then calls the scene in the advertisement wholesome. The ad states, ‘Everyday wholesome snacks for every wholesome family."

However, Nabisco has fought back against the negativity. They have released a video called "Love" as a response to the backlash. The video also points out that the commercial also receieved tremendously positive feedback. “On March 10, 2014, Honey Maid launched ‘This Is Wholesome,’ a commercial that celebrates all families. Some people didn’t agree with our message,” the video says. “So, we asked two artists to take the negative comments and turn them into something else.”

The video then shows those artists printing out the negative comments, rolling them up and creating a sculpture that reads “Love” in cursive script. The clip finishes with, “But the best part was all the positive messages we received. Over ten times as many. Proving that only one thing really matters when it comes to family—Love.” Check out the video to see just how unbalanced the response was.
