A former political strategist for Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) has accused the congresswoman of using explicit images to extort property from her ex-fiancé.
Former staffer, Wesley Donehue, alleged that Mace intended to use nude photos of herself—allegedly taken by her ex, entrepreneur Patrick Bryant—to pressure him into handing over full ownership of two shared properties: one in Washington, DC, and another in South Carolina's Isle of Palms, The Daily Beast reported. In an April deposition for a civil dispute case, he testified that Mace planned "to use all the information that she found as leverage to gain 100 percent ownership."
The report follows Tuesday's dramatic House Oversight Committee hearing, where Mace held up what she described as a "naked silhouette" of herself, purportedly captured without her consent by Bryant. The display came in the context of proposed legislation to curb revenge porn.
Bryant has denied all accusations, calling them "false and outrageous," and asserting that he never used hidden cameras or harmed anyone. "My mistake was loving and trusting someone who later weaponized our relationship," he said in a statement.
Bryant criticized Mace for making her claims only within the walls of Congress, where members are shielded by legal immunity, and not pursuing any legal action outside the chamber.
"I don't believe a word that comes out of Nancy Mace's mouth about anything," Donehue said in his deposition, accusing her of routinely playing the "victim card" for political and personal gain. "And that has nothing to do with this specific incident. I just believe that Nancy Mace will say and do anything for personal and political gain."
Mace has not publicly responded to the extortion allegations, and the civil case remains ongoing.
