Every year, on February 22, we celebrate National Margarita Day to pay tribute to the delicious tequila cocktail that has accompanied us through thick and thin. According to one of many, the drink came about when 35-year-old Margarita Sames, was partying at a cliffside hacienda in Acapulco in 1948 over the Christmas holidays when she concocted the drink using Tequila Herradura, Cointreau, and fresh lime juice. “After all, a person can only drink so many beers or so many Bloody Marys, or screwdrivers or whatever,” recalled Sames to the San Antonio News-Express in 1994.

As previously mentioned, margaritas are a very well loved drink in the U.S.; in fact Americans consume it at an alarming rate of 185,000 margaritas per hour, each year! Now, while we’re not recommending you over do it, here are some delicious versions of the cocktail to celebrate after surviving this Monday.
