Starting July 26th, new AT&T customers or current subscribers eligible for an upgrade can enroll in the plan and pick up any new smartphone or tablet with no down payment. However, there will be monthly installments to cover the purchase.
After 12 payments, the subscriber can trade in the device to get a new smartphone or tablet, again, with no upfront costs. If a new device isn't obtained, the subscriber can continue to use their existing unit and the added monthly payments will stop after 20 months.

AT&T's Next program is quite similar to T-Mobile's Jump program, which was announced last week and begins this Sunday. T-Mobile's Jump program lets subscribers upgrade every six months, although an initial down payment is required for the device.
It wouldn't be a surprise to see Verizon come out with a plan similar to AT&T Next and T-Mobile's Jump plans.
