The holiday is celebrated on March 14th (3/14) around the world, "Pi (Greek letter “π”) is the symbol used in mathematics to represent a constant — the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its diameter, which is approximately 3.14159, and it has been calculated to over one trillion digits beyond its decimal point," Piday.org reports. In honor of Pi Day, we shared with our readers some of the most popular pies recipes from around the world, enjoy.

Lime Pie by La Lechera

Ingredients

  • 1 package (6 ounces) Maria cookies, crushed (about 1 1/2 cups)
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted
  • 2 teaspoons granulated sugar
  • 1 can (14 ounces) Nestlé La Lechera Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • 1 package (8 ounces) cream cheese, at room temperature
  • 1 can (7.6 fluid ounces) Nestlé Media Crema
  • 1/2 cup (about 3 medium limes) lime juice
  • 1 teaspoon grated lime peel
  • Lime slices, berries or mint sprigs (optional)

Directions:

Mix cookie crumbs, butter and sugar in ungreased 9-inch springform pan; press firmly onto bottom. Place sweetened condensed milk, cream cheese and media crema in blender; cover. Blend until smooth. Add lime juice and lime peel; blend on medium speed for 1 minute. Pour into crust; freeze for at least 2 hours or until firm. Let stand at room temperature for 10 to 15 minutes and garnish with lime slices, berries or mint sprigs. Serve immediately.

Pumpkin Pie by La Lechera

Ingredients

  • 1 can (14 ounces) Nestlé La Lechera Sweetened Condensed Milk
  • 1 can (7.6 fluid ounces) Nestlé Media Crema
  • 1 can (15 ounces) LIBBY'S® 100% Pure Pumpkin
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 unbaked 9-inch (4-cup volume) deep-dish pie shell
  • Whipped cream (optional)

Directions

Preheat oven to 425° F. Place sweetened condensed milk, media crema, pumpkin, eggs, cinnamon, salt, ginger, nutmeg and cloves in blender; cover. Blend until smooth. Pour into pie shell. Bake for 10 minutes. Reduce temperature to 350° F; bake for 40 to 45 minutes or until knife inserted near center comes out clean. Cool on wire rack for 2 hours.

Serve immediately or refrigerate. Top with whipped cream before serving.

Hershey's Gone to Heaven Chocolate Pie Recipe

Ingredients

  • Sweetened whipped cream or whipped topping (optional)
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1/3 cup cornstarch
  • One 9-inch pie shell
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 4 egg yolks
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 2 cups (12-oz. pkg.) Hershey's special dark Chocolate Chips , divided
  • 2 tablespoons butter or margarine , softened

Directions

Bake pie shell; cool. Stir together sugar, cornstarch and salt in 2 quart saucepan. Combine egg yolks and milk in container with pouring spout. Gradually blend milk mixture into sugar mixture.

Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture comes to a boil. Boil and stir 1 minute. Remove from heat; stir in butter and vanilla. Add 1-3/4 cups chocolate chips; stir until chips are melted and mixture is well blended. Pour into prepared pie shell; press plastic wrap onto filling. Cool. Refrigerate several hours or until chilled and firm. Garnish with whipped cream and remaining chocolate chips, if desired. Makes 8 servings.

Chocolate Pecan Pie Recipe by Hershey's Kitchen

Ingredients

  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup HERSHEY'S Cocoa
  • 3 eggs , slightly beaten
  • 3/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 tablespoon butter or margarine , melted
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup pecan halves
  • 1 unbaked 9-inch pie crust
  • 1 cup whipped topping

Directions:

Heat oven to 350°F. Stir together sugar and cocoa in medium bowl. Add eggs, corn syrup, butter and vanilla; stir until well blended. Stir in pecans. Pour into unbaked pie crust. Bake 60 minutes or until set. Remove from oven to wire rack. Cool completely. Garnish with whipped topping. Makes 8 servings.

Easy Cinnamon Apple Pie Recipe by Hershey's Kitchen

Ingredients

  • 2 cans (20-oz. each) sliced apples (not pie filling) , drained *
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1-2/3 cups (10-oz. pkg.) Hershey's Cinnamon Chips , divided
  • 1 package (15 oz.) refrigerated pie crusts, or pastry for double-crust 9-inch pie
  • Vanilla ice cream (optional)
  • Cinnamon Drizzle (recipe follows, optional)

Directions:

Heat oven to 425°F. Place 1 unbaked crust in 9-inch pie plate. Gently stir together sliced apples, sugar and flour in large bowl; fold in 1 cup cinnamon chips. Spoon mixture into crust. Put second crust on top, crimping edges together as directed on package; cut several slits in top crust in center and toward sides. Cover edges with foil.

Bake 25 minutes; remove foil. Continue baking 15 to 20 minutes or until crust is golden brown and juices are bubbling. Cool completely. Just before serving, top each piece with scoop of ice cream and drizzle with Cinnamon Drizzle, if desired. Cover; refrigerate leftover pie. Makes 8 servings.

Cinnamon Drizzle: Melt remaining 2/3 cup cinnamon chips with 1-1/2 teaspoons shortening (do not use butter, margarine, spread or oil.) * 6 cups fresh, peeled and sliced baking apples may be substituted for the canned sliced apples.
