Duffy, a Welsh singer and songwriter, made a shocking revelation on Feb 26, Wednesday. She disclosed that she suddenly disappeared from the limelight because of her harrowing ordeal - she was raped, drugged and held captive.

Via her Instagram account, she opened up about her experience in an emotional post. She said that she wanted to reveal what happened to her many times but this is the only time she finally did it, although she is not sure why she feels that “now” is the right time. The 35-year-old added that it was liberating to finally share what she went through.

Duffy said that she started to open up when a journalist was able to contact her after her long absence. She told him everything and that made her feel great as a big chunk of negative feelings was finally taken off her chest.

‘The truth is, and please trust me I am ok and safe now, I was raped and drugged and held captive over some days,” Duffy wrote. “Of course I survived and recovery took time but I can tell you in the last decade, the thousands and thousands of days I committed to wanting to feel the sunshine in my heart again, the sun does now shine.”

The pop star further related that she did not say anything after her ordeal because she does not want people to see “sadness in her eyes.” She disappeared because she could not imagine how she could sing from the heart when it is broken.

At the end of her post, she expressed gratitude to all who supported her and asks everyone to please respect this gentle move that she has to make for herself adding that she does not want any intrusion to her family. Finally, she asks for support to make her experience a positive one.

She has previously performed an array of shows and festivals across the world. As per CNN News, she earned her first Grammy Award in 2009 for the best pop vocal for her album titled "Rockferry."

She was also nominated in the best new artist category and it was her single called “Mercy” that catapulted her to fame. Her last album release was in 2010 and then she suddenly vanished without anyone knowing why.
