It is unsurprising that Prince Charles wants Camilla to be queen after the reign of Queen Elizabeth. While earlier reports claimed that the Duchess of Cornwall’s title would change to princess consort when Prince Charles becomes king, more recent reports claim that the Prince of Wales will insist Camilla to adopt her rightful title once he reigns.

According to reports, Prince Charles will fight for Camilla to become queen when he becomes king. Although Camilla has not been a favorite of the public because of her history with Prince Charles, the heir to the British throne is reportedly adamant that his second wife be given an official royal title, and he will not settle for “Princess Consort.”

It was previously reported that upon Prince Charles’ ascension to the throne, Camilla’s title will change to princess consort, not queen consort. The decision was reportedly out of respect for the late Princess Diana, who was originally the one to sit beside Prince Charles on the day of his coronation. According to a royal commentator, however, Prince Charles will not settle for a princess consort title and will insist that Camilla be called queen.

“Out of sensitivity of Diana, it was announced Camilla would use The Duchess of Cornwall as her official title,” said the royal expert. “Then, come Charles’ accession, she would be known as Princess Consort as opposed to Queen Consort. ‘Princess Consort’ remains the official Palace line, but when the day finally dawns I suspect Charles will insist his wife adopt her rightful title,” she added.

According to the source, to accept anything less than the title “Queen” would mean to admit the fault he committed years ago. “This many years on, it strikes me as unnecessarily cautious for Camilla to be Queen Consort in all but name,” she said.

Another royal expert claimed that after so many years since the scandal involving Prince Charles and Camilla, the tide has finally turned in terms of the public’s perception of the Duchess of Cornwall. Through the years, Camilla has proven that she is capable of bringing out the best in Charles and will be a valuable support system to him when her husband assumes his future role as king.
