The hit Netflix series, ‘The Crown’ has been covering the rich history of the British Royal Family since its past two seasons and is due to release its third season on Sunday, November 17. But the important thing to know is that Prince William, The Queen, and Prince Charles do not like The Crown and in fact, they don’t even watch it.

The information was revealed by BAFTA Award-winning actor Olivia Colman, 45, who will be starring as the Queen in the third season of the show, including the Windsors. She met the Queen and Prince William, the Duke of Cambridge, who told her that he doesn’t watch The Crown.

“I was very uncool, and he was charming. He has that thing where he makes you feel you’re the most exciting person in the room,” Olivia said. But one thing Prince William refuses to do is to watch the show where Olivia plays the part of his grandmother.

Olivia added: “He said, ‘I know what you’re doing here.’ I asked, ‘Do you watch it?’ He said, ‘No, I don’t.’”

Like Prince William, the Queen refuses to watch the show either as she is “upset” and “annoyed” by how Prince Philip has been portrayed as an insensitive father.

“The Queen realises that many who watch The Crown take it as an accurate portrayal of the Royal Family and she cannot change that. But I can convey that she was upset by the way Prince Philip is depicted as being a father insensitive to his son’s well being,” a senior courtier had earlier shared.

While the first two seasons of the show focused on Queen Elizabeth’s reign from 1947 up until 1963, the upcoming season is focused particularly on Prince Charles, which, as per his aides, may negatively affect his image as the would-be king.

“Charles’s staff are deeply paranoid about The Crown. They are trying to make him a popular king-in-waiting. But the next few seasons are going to be increasingly focussed on the Prince of Wales’ behaviour, especially around his marriage to Diana and affair with Camilla. The timing couldn’t be any more disastrous in terms of Charles’s bid for popularity,” a royal source said.

Thus, when Netflix launched Our Planet starring Sir David Attenborough at London’s Natural History Museum in April, stars like Sex Education’s Emma Mackey, Black Mirror creator Charlie Brooker were invited. But The Crown actors were given a miss as Prince Charles’ staff had made it clear that if any actors from the show were there, the prince would not attend the Netflix event.
