Happy Nurses Week! While this whole week is a celebration of nurses, it is the Wednesday between May 6 and May 12 of each year that we celebrate National School Nurse Day. The theme for School Nurse Day 2016 is “Culture of Safety: It Starts With YOU.” The theme celebrates and honors the significant contribution that school nurses make every day to improve the safety, health, and academic success of all students. RN’s in schools play a necessary role, contributing every day care to special needs students, while also maintaining health and wellness in the overall school and community. A healthy student most obviously has the ability to learn more effectively and experience intellectual growth.

According to NurseDay.org, in the United States alone, more than 73,000 school nurses provide help to students while they meet new challenges that students face today. Nurses’ work to support education and advance student health, due to this dedication we have collected 15 quotes to honor and celebrate the amazing work that school nurses due each day for our students and the next generation.

“We often think of nursing as giving meds on time, checking an X-ray to see if the doctor needs to be called, or taking an admission at 2:00 a.m. with a smile on our faces. Too often, we forget all the other things that make our job what it truly is: caring and having a desire to make a difference.”Erin Pettengill
