Gossip mills can never really tire of the British Royal Family. While Prince Harry and Meghan Markle might have been tabloids’ favorite muses, turns out, even the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge weren’t always spared.

Not too long ago, in the first half of 2019, rumors were rife that the future king was cheating a Marchioness behind Middleton’s back, Rose Hanbury. The buzz was further aggravated by a later-deleted tweet by Giles Coren of “The Times of London.”

“Yes, it is an affair. I haven’t read the piece but I know about the affair. Everyone knows about the affair, darling,” tweeted Coren, before the explosive post was wiped off the face of the social networking site.

Hanbury happens to be a really close friend of the Cambridges, and is often spotted at the high-profile social dos attended by William and Middleton. While the three have been on good terms for the longest time, things got a lot awkward after the Duchess and Marchioness reportedly had a “feud” of sorts. Needless to say, the untoward incident didn’t go unnoticed by tabloids.

“The Sun” was the first to report the rumor and ran a story that mentioned details about how a rather flustered Middleton advised her husband to “phase” Hanbury out of their circle. While what exactly ensued between Middleton and Hanbury continues to be a mystery, things were never the same between the once-thick friends.

Absurd as it may seem, the truth is, William’s genes is being cited as one of the reasons behind the murky rumor gaining momentum. Prince Charles, the Duke’s father, has an infamous history of cheating on his then-wife Princess Diana with his current wife, Camilla Parker Bowles. So, assumptions are being made that William is likely to follow in on his father’s footsteps.

While there is a flurry of dubious reports hinting at the affair, there hasn’t been any concrete evidence that testifies any of the rumors floating around. What’s more, Gossip Cop revealed that the attorneys of the royal family released a statement clearing the air -- which is a first of sorts, as the Royal Family, as a rule, chooses to keep mum on tabloid rumors.

Truth be told, it is also very likely for William and Middleton to have distanced themselves from Hanbury for the sake of protecting her reputation, which was getting maligned at the cost of the royal couple.
