In another effort to rebrand the image of Taco Bell restaurants, a location in the neighborhood of Wicker Park at at 1439 N. Milwaukee Avenue in Chicago will start serving beer, wine and frozen mixed drinks. This is most likely the initial step to start introducing upscale locations similar to the chain’s outposts in the United Kingdom, Tokyo and Seoul, which feature more open and visible kitchens and non-disposable serving baskets. Reports indicate the restaurants will have an “urban” feel, with exposed brick walls and communal tables.

Alcoholic beverages will, of course, only be served to costumers who are dining in, and the serving cups will have a different look so employees can detect if anyone is trying to sneak one out. There is now word yet on what times the ‘bar’ will be open for business, and if there are plans to extend the service to other locations in the near future. In addition, the Tex-Mex fast-food chain announced their plans to remove all artificial flavors and colors, which means about 95% of their menu will be affected. The change probably comes from seeing the successful trend rise with competitors such as Chipotle.
