Kendall Jenner was only 14 when she started a career in modeling. At that time, she had no idea what she was getting into — all she knew was that she wanted to be a model. Early on in her career, she realized how her famous family could actually make her modeling career harder for her.

Kylie Jenner’s sister is currently the highest-paid model in the world. Forbes reported that in 2018 alone, she earned an astounding 22.5 million dollars from her modeling gigs, beating out some of the world’s best-known and highest-paid models like Karlie Kloss.

While her career is now at its peak, Jenner previously admitted that success didn’t come easy for her. In fact, it took her a decade to get where she is today, and her career had a really rough start.

When she was 14, she told her mom, Kris Jenner, that she wanted to pursue a modeling career and that it’s all she wanted to do. Her mother then immediately spread the word about her daughter’s dream, and just like that, she was able to enter the world of modeling.

In a recent interview with Vogue Australia, Jenner admitted that she didn’t have a backup plan when she told her mom that she wanted to be a model. “I don’t think I necessarily needed to have one,” she said.

“Anything I do, I always want to be 100 percent in it and know I want to be doing it. When I started, I was so young, so if it didn’t work out then I was going to figure it out,” she added.

Jenner also admitted that despite her age, she was already aware that her famous family name could be more of a disadvantage than an advantage for her. Although it has always been her dream to become a supermodel, she wanted to become successful not because of her family name.

Determined to prove that she’s more than just her name, she decided not to use her full name when she started her modeling career. She wanted to break free from people’s expectations and prove them that she could book a job based on her own merits and not because she came from a famous family.

For Jenner, what has propelled her to her current position in the modeling industry is her work ethic. She wants to believe that she’s a supermodel today because she’s great at what she does, not because she’s a Jenner. While she can’t get away from the fame of her family, she has achieved her status not because of that but because of her hard work.
