Meghan Markle is struggling — “existing” and “not living” in her words. Prince Harry and Meghan almost opened up a can of worms in a documentary filmed throughout the royal couple’s 10-day tour of Africa last month, which aired on ITV on Monday.

Meghan’s revelatory interview, which bears an uncanny resemblance to Princess Diana’s explosive interview with BBC Panorama’s Martin Bashir, may seem “problematic” for Queen Elizabeth. The show, titled “Harry & Meghan: An Africa Journey,” was presented by Tom Bradby.

The popular show is known for its upbeat vibe. But the Duke and Duchess of Sussex decided to keep it real and spoke of their struggles toward the end of the show.

Meghan voiced her real feelings about her marriage, her life as a royal and her state of mind. The former “Suits” actress hinted at how crucial it was for her to “feel happy” and “thrive.” And according to her, enduring “unwanted scrutiny was just not the point of life.”

The show took an explosive turn when Meghan didn’t shy away from dropping a few unsavory truths. “In all fairness, I had no idea, which probably sounds difficult to understand, but when I first met Harry, my friends were so excited, my US friends were happy because I was happy,” she revealed. “But my British friends, they were sure he was lovely, but they said I shouldn’t do it because ‘the British tabloids will destroy your life.’”

A royal insider, however, maintained that Prince Charles and the Queen have gone “out of their way” to help Meghan out. “I know that the Prince of Wales has several times reached out to Meghan,” said the insider.

“They get on and share a love of music too. I know he invited her to a preview of an exhibition at the palace. The Queen has been a source of strength too and invited them both to Balmoral where family problems are usually aired,” added the insider.

Ironically, a similar tone was used by the late Princess Diana during her controversial 1995 interview. Diana revealed to Bashir her personal struggles and marriage to Prince Charles, shedding light on his infidelity and coping with feelings of exclusion within the Palace.

Similarly, Meghan revealed her real feelings on the show. “Not many people have asked if I’m okay,” she said. But what she said in the interview is likely to bring bad image to the royal famly.

The Queen abhors emotional outpourings and is one to staunchly go by the expression “Never explain. Never complain.” Diana’s explosive revelations are cited as the main reason behind the Queen severing all ties with her.

There’s also no refuting that Prince Harry and Meghan will “not put up and shut up” and thus might spark worry in the royal family. On the other hand, Prince Harry is incredibly protective of his family and has made it clear that he would go to great lengths to protect them.
