Mexican actor Eugenio Derbez is beginning to have more presence in the United States, especially after the successful premiere of his latest film, “Miracles From Heaven,” which he has been promoting all over the country next to co-star, Jennifer Garner. Derbez is not only breaking into the English-speaking movie world, but he also recently received his own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

“When I was a kid, my mom used to take me to the movies as a hobby…a hobby that later became a passion,” the 54-year-old comedian said during his acceptance speech earlier this month. Fortunately, that is not the only thing the “Instructions Not Included” star is passionate about.

During a recent press conference, Derbez talked about his feelings regarding the current Presidential elections and shared his opinion about Donald Trump, and the damages his rhetoric has already caused to the Latino community in the U.S.

“It’s a very big responsibility, and I feel like, in a way, with everything that’s been going on with my career, Latinos in the U.S. stop me and tell me: ‘Please, fight for us, speak up for us.’ As if I were the spokesperson for all Latinos,” Derbez told Milenio.com. “I really don’t feel like I am, but I do have the responsibility to raise my voice for them, and not leave them alone.”

Regarding the disturbing consequences that Trump’s words have had amongst the community, he confessed, “Truth to be told, there are a lot of families that will be separated if this señor makes it. There have been many families torn apart as it is, and that’s why I feel strongly about speaking up for them, because they don’t have a voice right now.”

Earlier this month, Eugenio used one of his signature characters to give a humoristic twist to the GOP front-runner’s image. When Univision’s Jorge Ramos asked him what was the reason behind his sketch, he replied: “The best way to respond to Trump is with actions.”
