Google's Android. Android

Google is preparing to launch another smart TV product. The company is ready to release a new set-top device similar to Amazon Fire TV called Android TV according to The Verge.

This set-top box will be less ambitious and easier to navigate than the company’s previous streaming TV device, Google TV. The Verge reports that they have Google documents which describes the new Android TV as an entertainment platform and not a computer. The exact wording is, “Android TV is an entertainment interface, not a computing platform.”

The idea is to give users a simple interface to access entertainment content and applications. The most distinctive feature is a recommendation system that is activated as soon as the user turns the device on.

Screenshots obtained by The Verge show Google’s own apps like Play Movies, YouTube, and Hangouts; but also showcase third party apps like Vevo, Netflix, Hulu, Pandora, and games. The games look like mobile video games including “Plants vs. Zomies 2,” “Temple Run” and “TripleTown.”

As of now there is no information about the launch date, but the documents at The Verge’s website suggest Google is recruiting developers to build apps for Android TV.
