Valve HTC Vive Virtual Reality Half Life
Valve announced its cooperation with HTC to create a new virtual reality video game. Valve

Renowned game developer Valve, best known for the legendary "Half Life" video game franchise, had major media presence at the San Francisco Game Developers Conference (GDC). Particularly, Valve decided to host a special press session at the Conference on March 3, 3 pm. Because of the triple repetition of "3," speculators wondered whether Valve was possibly preparing a special announcement for "Half Life 3."

During the Valve conference, the game developer came short of announcing what games they plan to release in the future, but did confirm that it will be cooperating with HTC to create new video games that will be designed for a brand-new virtual reality headset known as the HTC Vive. The HTC Vive and the new video game by Valve is expected to finally arrive in the market by the end of the year.

Amid the buzz of a new game by Valve over the week, HTC chairwoman Cher Wang made a big announcement during an interview with BBC:

BBC: One of Valve's most famous games is the Half-life series, and I know there are millions and millions of gamers that are desperate for a new Half-life game to come out. Is the new Half-life going to be on the virtual-reality headset? Is that what Valve is going to do with this machine?

HTC Chairwoman Cher Wang: I think Valve's best game is Dota, right, and Portal and [Team Fortress] and I think they are very keen to have them.

BBC: But how about Half-life - is that going to be on there?

CW: We are co-operating with Half-life, and I think... I hope, you know, it will be on it.

Cher Wang's final statement was exactly what the fans were hoping to hear. Unfortunately, we have recently learned that the quote is in fact too good to be true: Valve was surprised by The HTC chairwoman's claim and said that Wang must have been confused. A source within Valve later told the BBC that there is no development for a "Half-Life" game at this time.

Eventually, Cher Wang addressed the incident and issued the rather disappointing announcement:

"Regarding my BBC interview with Dave Lee yesterday, I would like to apologise for any confusion caused when I referred to individual games titles," she said.

"In response to a question on specific games, I misspoke when I referred to our working together with Valve on a particular game, when instead I meant our collaboration with Valve on developing next-generation virtual reality experiences for gaming.

"I am very excited about the work we are doing with Valve, and look forward to bringing our HTC Vive to market later this year."

So Valve may or may not be developing a game with the new HTC Vive. That said, what upcoming games should be we expecting from Valve? Like "Half Life," there are three other games are also awaiting their third installment: Portal 3, Left 4 Dead 3 and Team Fortress 3. Stay tuned in the months ahead.
