The spinoff to the CBS hit-comedy “How I Met Your Mother” has found its leading lady! It has been revealed that Greta Gerwig best known for her role in “Frances Ha” has been cast as the protagonist in pilot for “How I Met Your Dad.” While HIMYM follows the story of Ted Mosby explaining to his children how he met their mother, “How I Met Your Dad,” will follow the same format but will introduce new characters and the protagonist this time around is female.

Greta will play Sally who is described as “a female Peter Pan who has never grown up and has no idea of where she's going in life." Sally feels like she has nothing in common with her husband of less than a year and a divorce is inevitable. Fortunately for her, she has friends and family that will support her as she moves forward. “How I Met Your Dad” will exist in the same universe as HIMYM and if the pilot is picked up will likely shoot in New York. The pilot however, will be produced in Los Angeles.

“How I Met Your Mother” creators Carter Bays and Craig Thomas will be executive producers, While Variety reports Gerwig will serve as a producer and is expected to write as well. Emily Spivey, Bays and Thomas wrote the upcoming pilot. Gerwig is best known for her role in the indie-hit film “Frances Ha” which received a Golden Globe nomination but the actress has also appeared in films such as “Arthur” and “Lola Versus.” The 30-year-old actress just finished filming “The Humbling,” which also stars Al Pacino.
