August 5 marks the 52nd anniversary of Marilyn Monroe’s death, the iconic actress was known for many things, her beauty, her acting, her several suitors and of course her famous quotes. It seems nearly unbelievable that the actress has been gone for 52 years, after being found dead in the bedroom of her Brentwood home by her psychiatrist, Ralph Greenson, Monroe was only 36 years old at the time of her death.
Monroe’s death like much of her life has been a cultural phenomenon; due to varying reports and many unanswered questions Monroe’s death is considered one of the most debated events of recent history. The death was ultimately ruled as a probable suicide due to “acute barbiturate poisoning,” however several detectives, specifically Jack Clemmons, the first LAPD officer to arrive at the scene believed that Monroe was in fact murdered. While the truth remains a mystery, the fact remains that Monroe left a lasting impact on society, cementing herself as a pop culture icon.
