Scion Configurator
Scion Configurator Scion

For months, Scion has teased us with the FR-S color selection page ahead of its official release. Finally, the official 2013 Scion FR-S configurator has launched.

Starting at $24,930, first impressions of the initial-release Scion FR-S sports car configurator are refreshingly straightforward. Starting with a choice of manual or automatic transmissions, Scion charges a $1,100 premium for buyers that opt for an automatic. Our advice? Save some money, and treat learning manual as a character-building activity.

Moving on to color selection, Scion offers a choice of seven options. However, an extra $220 will be charged for clicking on "Whiteout," a paint finish with a name better known as the correction fluid some of us may have used back when people still wrote letters by hand.

As for exterior options, Scion does not offer wheel options, body kits, or spoilers just yet, but this should only be a matter of time. For now, daily drivers will be pleased to see wheel locks, mudguards, as well as 3M paint protection film for the hood, front fenders, and front bumpers.

The interior is similarly bare bones. There are no trim packages here. In fact, the only notable option available for now is a BeSpoke Premium Audio System for $845. An ashtray cup is also available for $26, while a carpet trunk mat and a cargo tote is $96 and $58, respectively.

Now, the costs may really start to rack up depending on how you choose your Vehicle Service Agreement. If you're a tuner, then a 7 YR Platinum - 100k agreement may not apply as your monster turbo and that gutted race-spec interior with roll cage would likely void all warranties anyway. However, if you consider your new FR-S a future classic, then protection is probably a great way to retain your vehicle's value.

All in all, a Whiteout Scion FR-S spec'd to the brim with everything from an ashtray cup to the most expensive Platinum Vehicle Service Agreement will charge $30,814.
