Is this the new 2015 Subaru WRX? A Japanese TV automotive program featuring active brake assist technology revealed a glimpse of a new Subaru that featured a snorkel on the hood, a signature element in turbocharged Subaru models.
In the Japanese television segment, Subaru demonstrated its Eye Sight automatic braking system by using an assortment of vehicles in a variety of scenarios. In particular, a test driver navigates a car in a closed course when a mannequin crosses into the car's path. The camera follows what looks like the next-generation Impreza WRX car as it applies its brakes and stops abruptly, proving the effectiveness of the Eye Sight system.
Information on the latest Impreza STI is limited but the flared body work, larger wheels, and snorkel are prominent and unmistakable. According to informed sources, the WRX engine will remain a turbocharged boxer-4. However, this time the engine will be related to the 2.0 liter powerplant developed for the BRZ.
While the boxer 4 in the BRZ features Toyota's direct injection system, the turbocharged boxer-4 in the WRX will toss the Toyota hardware for something of Subaru's design. Output is expected to exceed 265 hp in WRX guise. In STI form, the number will rise above 305 hp.
We expect the Subaru to debut the 2015 WRX and WRX STI in final production form at the Los Angeles Auto Show in November.
